Sensation at Veles “Pitijada”: Pie weighing 90 kilograms and measuring 4.4 meters in length

The traditional 2026 Pitijada pie festival is taking place in Veles on Saturday and Sunday. This year’s giant pie set a record, measuring 4.4 meters in length and weighing 90 kilograms; the artisans from the “Gemidzhii” bakery required seven hours to prepare it, using 28 kilograms of dough, 45 kilograms of meat, and 370 eggs.

The Municipality of Veles reported that the pie was prepared by the “Gemidzhii” bakery team under the supervision of Chef Goran Bogoevski. Participants in the preparation included Angel Kostov, Zorancho Ilievski, Laze Kocevski, Blagojche Nikolov, Paskal Jamalov, Kristina Manevska, Vele Gligorov, and Nikola Lazarevski, alongside Aleksandar Jamalov and the team’s youngest members, Georgij and Kalina.

This year’s edition of the Pitijada pie festival also has a humanitarian aspect. In cooperation with the Veles Red Cross, proceeds from the sale of the pie were collected for charitable purposes.

“The fun continues! We look forward to sharing a taste that tells the story of tradition,” the Municipality said in a statement for the media.
