Macedonian Army undergoes planned modernization process, to complete set objectives by year-end

Through a tactical-technical display on a boulevard in the center of Prilep, featuring some of the modern equipment and weaponry with which the Macedonian Army is being outfitted, citizens viewed an exhibition of Army gear and witnessed the combat capabilities and skills of special forces units. The event was held in honor of the October 11th national holiday and the major milestone marking 85 years since the start of the National Uprising.

“We are showcasing everything that is part of the latest modernization, the newest phase in building the Army’s capabilities and capacities. I am referring here, first and foremost, to infantry equipment, gear for special forces units, and—what I believe matters most to the people of Prilep, new artillery capabilities, given that Prilep is the home base of the artillery battalion. On display are the new Boran systems and howitzers, JLTV and Stryker light armored vehicles, and all the other equipment the Army is continuously acquiring,” said Major General Lafchiski.

The Major General adds that the Army’s modernization is proceeding according to plan and that all set objectives will be met by the end of the year.

“The Army’s modernization is proceeding according to plan, as it should, because simply purchasing equipment is not enough; it must be operationalized and brought to a state of readiness. It represents the integration of Army personnel with the equipment. I am pleased to note that we will fulfill all planned obligations by the end of the year, thereby completing the top modernization priorities, particularly regarding vehicles for the light infantry battalion group. Stryker, in the context of the JLTV vehicles and all the other equipment with which ARM staff have been equipped over the recent period,” said Lafchiski.
