Regarding the reaction of the National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski to a reporter’s question from TV Kanal 5 during a public event intended for the media, the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMS) points out that in communication with the media, respect for professional standards is necessary.

Reporters’ questions must not be treated as an attack, journalists must not be vilified for doing their job. And officials must demonstrate good manners and responsibility, because transparency and accountability are of essential importance to the public, says the AVMS.

“Reporters’ questions are an integral part of the democratic process and must not be treated as an attack, nor must journalists be discredited for performing their professional duties. Holders of public office have an obligation to demonstrate a high level of political manners, responsibility and professionalism, thereby contributing to strengthening the trust of citizens and the media in institutions. This is particularly important considering their role in ensuring transparency and accountability to the public,” the AVMS pointed out in a press release.
