A call for bids has been released to select supervision services for the third-phase railway construction to Bulgaria, and in about ten days a call for bid to select a contractor should also be issued, which will allow work on the ground to begin during the summer, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said ahead of Thursday’s meeting on implementation of the works along the Corridor VIII, organized in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje.

Nikoloski announces that the meeting will also discuss the western railway wing of Corridor 8, as well as the projects for the construction of the road sections of this Corridor, which, he noted, are progressing well.

“The construction of the railway and road sections of Corridor VIII will cost EUR 5 billion. The state is showing that it can implement large infrastructure projects,” said Nikoloski.

Deputy Head of the EU Delegation Ben Nupnau points out that Corridor VIII is a strategic project with benefits for citizens and countries, highlighting its security significance in times of geopolitical crisis. The meeting is a confirmation of the Government’s commitment to implementing the Corridor VIII projects, Nupnau noted.
