Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said Monday the Government is doing all it can to help professional drivers, noting that bilateral agreements with countries that are part of the Schengen zone are being concluded.
“We have full understanding for professional drivers and we are trying to help and find solutions within our capabilities. These are rules in the Schengen zone, and what we can do is sign bilateral agreements with Schengen member states. We are already doing that and have already reached an agreement with several countries, and in the coming period we will also work intensively on an agreement with other countries. A high-level meeting with the Austrian government has been announced during September, and with the Slovenian government during October, so we are not stopping and continue to work on bilateral agreements with all countries that are willing,” said the Deputy PM.
He points out that the goal is to ensure coverage of the routes that Macedonian drivers most often travel on.
“We are generally looking to cover the routes where Macedonian professional drivers traditionally travel most often. There is already an agreement with Switzerland, there is an agreement with Croatia, there is an agreement with Romania. As I said, the next ones for discussion are Austria and Slovenia, and we are also working with Germany,” Nikoloski said.
According to the Macedonian Deputy PM, this way the countries with the highest frequency of Macedonian drivers are covered, and the Government and the Ministry continue to work to find additional solutions.
