Police officers in the southern Macedonian city of Bitola have caught a fraudster and filed criminal charges against the suspect and his currently unknown accomplices.
Bitola resident D.N. (67) and two other people called elderly people by phone, posing as doctors and misleading them that members of their families had been involved in traffic accidents and suffered serious injuries, and that they should give money for their treatment.
They managed to defraud an 84-year-old Bitola woman and an 83-year-old Bitola man, stealing a total of EUR 20,000 from them.
Moreover, during an attempt to defraud a 78-year-old resident of a Bitola village on Friday, February 27, she reported the case to the Bitola Interior Directorate and measures and activities were immediately taken, with police officers finding and arresting D.N. on the spot while trying to take the money. Suspect D.N. has made a full confession to the crimes.
