Brvenica residents to vote for mayor

Residents of ten villages in the Municipality of Brvenica are voting Sunday in an early mayoral election, following the death of former Mayor Jovica Ilievski, who died June 23 at age 58.

Polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm. A total of 16,256 voters are registered in Brvenica, including 449 people working abroad temporarily and nine voters in prison or detention.

The State Election Commission and the Municipal Election Commission will release preliminary results online and through official announcements within hours of the polls closing, with final results published within 24 hours.

To win in the first round, a mayoral candidate must win a majority of the votes cast, provided that at least one-third of all registered voters participate. If voter turnout fails to reach one-third, the entire election process must be repeated.

Six candidates are running for mayor of Brvenica. They are Stojancho Radicheski, backed by the Your Macedonia coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE; Jovica Radeski, representing the SDSM-led coalition; independent candidate Dushan Bogdanovski; Jakup Huseini of the Worth It coalition; independent candidate Arife Idrizi; and Arkin Jahiji of the National Alliance for Integration.
