Chento: April 27 verdict based on fabricated procedure with pressure exerted on witnesses

According to Chento, this is not an ordinary case, but, as he says, it is a matter of well-founded suspicion that illegal evidence was used, that pressure was exerted on witnesses and that a verdict was reached based on a rigged procedure

One of the people convicted in the “April 27” case related to the storming of Parliament in 2017 Jane Chento said Monday he has filed a criminal complaint against former public prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska due to suspicions of obstruction of justice and abuse of official position and authorizations.

“We have submitted evidence to the Public Prosecutor’s Office related to the April 27 case that seriously questions the manner in which the investigation and the course of the trial were conducted. The evidence indicates communication between a high-ranking official and one of the key witnesses in that procedure, between the brother of a high-ranking official and a witness, possible agreements with the prosecutor, as well as guidance for the testimony given by the witness in that procedure. The witness, in a statement certified by a notary, states that his previous statement given in the procedure was untrue and that he was promised that he would be helped in other criminal proceedings if he gave such a statement,” said Chento.

He points out that there is also an expert report from an authorized court expert on mobile phones, which supports the witness’s statement certified by a notary.

Chento called on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to thoroughly review the criminal complaint and the submitted evidence.

According to Chento, this is not an ordinary case, but, as he says, it is a matter of well-founded suspicion that illegal evidence was used, that pressure was exerted on witnesses and that a verdict was reached based on a rigged procedure.

“This today is not a political statement, but a step based on documents and serious suspicions of committed crimes. All evidence we have has been submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and we expect them to act professionally and without delay,” Chento said.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) says that the complaint will be accepted and the allegations will be investigated.
