Citizens support ban on smoking in public areas, shows latest poll

The amendments to this law passed the first reading in Parliament and are awaiting debates in the competent committees and the submission of amendments

The MKD.mk poll, conducted by the Market Vision agency from June 10 to 27, shows that the public in Macedonia is well aware of the proposals of the Law on Protection from the Use of Tobacco and Related Products. The responses of 1,200 respondents showed that more than two-thirds of the population support the Government’s proposals to ban smoking in public places.

To the question “Are you familiar with the proposals of the Law on the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places?”, more than 83 percent of the respondents answered positively. Only 16.2 percent of the respondents answered that they are not familiar with the proposed changes to this law.

Exactly 68 percent of the respondents who answered that they are familiar with the changes to the Law on the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places answered that they support the proposed changes. 28.2 percent of the respondents who answered that they are familiar with the changes to the Law have a negative stance.

The amendments to this law passed the first reading in Parliament and are awaiting debates in the competent committees and the submission of amendments, and then to be brought back to the plenary session for a second reading and final vote.
