They need to be checked from a legal perspective, to make sure there are no errors, because these are three extensive laws.

The three laws on higher education and science (on higher education, on the quality of higher education and on scientific research) are in government procedure. They were placed on the national register of regulations (ENER) in January and debates were organized at universities, after which acceptable comments were incorporated into the new versions, said Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska on Thursday.

At a press conference in the Government dedicated to the set of laws, Minister Janevska announced that she expects the government procedure to be completed in a short period of time and for the laws to be forwarded to Parliament, given that there is, as she says, a consensus with the academic community on the quality of the laws, but that they are extensive and exceptionally important and therefore read carefully.

“They need to be checked from a legal perspective, to make sure there are no errors, because these are three extensive laws. I assume that this will take a certain period of time, because they need to be read very carefully, they are of exceptional importance. Then they will go to a government session at which the laws will be discussed by the members of the Government, who will have previously reviewed them, and if they agree that the law should go to the Parliament, it will be sent there ex officio. Considering that the Ministry of Education, that is, the Government, and the academic community already have a consensus on the quality and benefit of this law, I expect all of this to be completed in a very short period of time,” added Minister Janevska.
