We believe that progress is not built through imposition, but through partnership. Today, we have established a true partnership with the academic community. The good intention was recognized and together we worked on creating a new law on higher education that will respond to real challenges and open up new perspectives, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a press conference Thursday.

According to the PM, it is particularly important that the new legal solution creates conditions for young people to stay in the country.

Students who study at the top 100 world universities with state scholarships, as well as the best students in Macedonia – winners of the Engineering Ring or declared the best at their universities – will have an advantage in employment at state universities, says Mickoski.

As the PM points out, this law is not being drafted behind closed doors. There has been a broad debate among universities, experts, students, etc.

“The time has come to stop experiments and start with systemic solutions. As a generation, we must be aware that if we continue to function in this way, we will lose our youth and not be surprised why thousands of our youth are studying at universities in the region. We must offer quality if we want to have generations that will lead this country in the future.

We cannot move forward by improvising and with ad-hoc solutions or solutions that are created only for a small group of people. Either we will do the job properly or better yet, not do it at all and turn a key and know that the country has no future. But, as long as I am the Prime Minister, I will fight for this country to have a much greater future than the one that someone unfortunately predicts and, unfortunately, certain opposition structures that want to return it to those dark, dark times plagued with crime, corruption, poor quality and lack of prosperity,” PM Mickoski underlined.
