The gas interconnector with Greece is entering a significantly more intensive stage of its realization. The pace of construction has increased after intensive coordination between the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, NOMAGAS, and Greek operator DESFA, said the Macedonian Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral resources in a press release Friday.

Macedonian Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry, DESFA and NOMAGAS, inspected the construction activities on the route of the gas interconnector with Greece. During which they were informed by the contractor about the progress of the project, as well as that conditions have been created for a significant acceleration of the construction.

Currently, 95 percent of the expropriation has been completed, about 85 percent of the route has been cleared, and the production of all pipes planned for the project has been completed.

So far, 34 kilometers of pipes have been delivered, of which 21 kilometers have already been deployed along the route. Welding has been carried out on 13.7 kilometers of pipeline, more than 800 successful welds have been completed, and over 6,300 meters of pipe have already been laid in the ground. In parallel, six of the seven planned underpasses have been completed, and about 65 percent of the associated facilities – block stations – have been provided.

“This project represents an investment in energy security, economic stability and the future development of the country. Our priority is to implement the project in a quality manner, on time and with maximum dynamics,” stressed Minister Bozhinovska.
