Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport AleksandarNikoloski said Thursday that construction remains one of the strongest drivers of the national economy, as clearly confirmed by the State Statistics Office (SSO) latest data for the first quarter (Q1) of 2026.

These figures represent a strong indicator of the continuous construction activity throughout the country, as well as the successful implementation of capital investments that are of key importance for economic development, the Ministry of Transport reports.

Particularly encouraging is the fact that the civil engineering segment recorded a double-digit growth of over 20 index points. This segment includes investments in the construction of highways, expressways, regional and local roads, as well as railways, which the Government, through the Ministry of Transport, is implementing with a high level of commitment and responsibility, reads the press release.

The growth in civil engineering is a direct result of the intensified activities in the field and the strong dynamics with which capital projects are being implemented.

Additionally, the SSO announced that the growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) in Q1 2026 is 3.1 percent.
