The Executive Board of the National Bank has decided to maintain the countercyclical capital buffer rate for domestic bank exposures at the current level of 2 percent; the Bank will continue to closely monitor systemic risks and regularly reassess the rate on a quarterly basis.
“The decision was made based on the regular quarterly assessment of systemic risks, using data up to the second quarter of 2026. This rate will apply from the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2027 and is considered appropriate given current macro-financial conditions and the state of the banking system,” the Macedonian central bank added.
According to the National Bank’s assessment, the country’s banking system is stable and resilient to shocks, a fact confirmed by stress test results and evidenced by adequate capitalization and liquidity, a low non-performing loan ratio, and solid profitability.
