The Control and Investigations Sector discovered and foiled an attempt to smuggle 4,800 packages of nicotine pouches worth MKD 1.2 million. Criminal charges will be filed against the perpetrator for committing the crime of smuggling, punishable under the Criminal Code.
The suspect was stopped for control by a mobile customs team, inside the country, immediately after entering the country through the Tabanovce border crossing, during which 4,752 packages of nicotine sachets with nicotine and 48 packages of nicotine pouches – Snus containing nicotine and tobacco were found. The goods and the vehicle were seized, and the suspect was taken in for questioning by the investigation inspectors.
The pre-investigation procedure determined that the goods were to be handed over to a person against whom the Customs Administration filed criminal charges last year for concealing goods that are the subject of smuggling – cigarettes without excise stamps and customs fraud.
After the investigation is fully completed, criminal charges will be filed against the suspect with the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office for smuggling.
