Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski urged Macedonian bus and truck drivers not to believe false reports being circulated regarding Schengen Area stay limits.
In an interview with Kanal 5 TV, Nikoloski said no official meeting regarding the issue had taken place in Brussels recently. He asked bus and truck drivers not to be led astray by reports from a neighboring country currently facing elections and noted that the claim of a September 1 meeting in Brussels was completely false.
The Deputy PM stressed that the most significant progress in resolving the Schengen Area stay limits occurred in February, when the European Union officially recognized bus and truck drivers as professionals, enabling them to apply for long-term visas valid across the entire EU.
Drivers transporting goods anywhere within the Schengen Zone can now apply for and obtain these long-term visas, which are already being issued by Croatia and Switzerland, he said.
Deputy PM Nikoloski highlighted that these visas grant access to the entire Schengen Area, so truck drivers face no further movement restrictions as long as they present a valid long-term visa.
