The Shar Planina National Park informs that the last pipe has been removed from the Leshnica area where hydropower plants were to be built. On July 28 this year, they informed that the relocation of the pipes from the area to Popova Shapka has begun.
“What makes us especially happy is that the activities did not end with the removal of the pipes that had been deposited in the valley for years. The pipes that were already buried were also dug up and completely removed from the area. Today, there is no remaining pipeline infrastructure on the route, either above or below ground,” the Shar Planina National Park said Friday.
According to the National Park, this is a significant step towards returning the Leshnica Valley to a state that is as close to natural as possible and the result of a longer institutional process and coordination with the competent state institutions.
“Leshnica is one of the most naturally valuable and recognizable areas of the National Park, part of the future Natura 2000 areas and the Emerald Network, and its protection is of exceptional importance. The pipes have been removed. The renovation of the area and the final institutional closure of the projects follow,” the National Park said.
The pipes were left in the Popova Shapka parking lot, but were then taken from there to designated locations.
