Statistics show an increase in reports of gender-based and domestic violence. The state is working on a new draft strategy:

“Unfortunately, the number has went up, and I assume because citizens are already conscientious and report this type of violence. Of course, prevention is one element of the Strategy itself, where every such occurrence should be prevented, i.e. so that more serious violations of the law do not occur,” Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth Gjoko Velkovski told reporters.

The deputy minister pointed out that this national document will contain two action plans, valid for four years and annual plans for each year.

“It is truly a national document, which, with national and international legal elements, will be implemented in Macedonia. With this, I think we will improve it with three elements, and that is in the part of those policies or collecting all that information, data, so a unified approach to the prevention of violence against women. Of course, the element of support for women and families where this type of violence occurs will also be important,” said Velkovski.
