A public prosecutor from the Kumanovo Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an order to conduct an investigative procedure against a person for whom there is a reasonable suspicion that he committed a criminal offense of murder under Article 123 paragraph 2 item 1 of the Criminal Code.

On an unspecified date in the period between 27.01.2026 and 12.02.2026, the 25-year-old suspect in the village of Chelopek, Municipality of Staro Nagorichane, intentionally and in a cruel and insidious manner murder the victim, a woman born in 1947.

“He took advantage of the fact that the injured party lived by herself, was elderly and frail. She was asleep when he entered her house, so the suspect physically assaulted her, inflicting several blows with which he caused her serious bodily injuries from which the woman died. With intensive coordinated actions in the past few days by the Kumanovo Public Prosecutor’s Office and the investigation center in that Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Interior and the teams of the Forensic Medicine Institute, evidence has been secured that indicates a connection between this event and several other similar cases in the Kumanovo region. Due to similarities in terms of the choice of the victim and the cruel manner of committing the crime, it is being investigated whether these cases are also murders committed by the same perpetrator. An exhumation and autopsy was ordered for one of the potential victims yesterday, and traces and DNA were taken from the body of the deceased woman and are being analyzed,” the Prosecutor’s Office informed.

The Kumanovo Public Prosecutor’s Office adds that the investigative authorities are working on complex expert examinations and analyses, as well as other actions to secure evidence, which cannot currently be shared with the public due to the secrecy of the procedure.

The suspect was immediately detained and secured from the moment of his discovery, and upon the proposal of the public prosecutor, a detention measure was imposed on him. A psychiatric examination of the suspect by a team of experts – forensic psychiatrists from the Skopje Institute of Psychiatry has also been ordered.

The Kumanovo Police filed criminal charges with the Kumanovo Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office against T.B. (25) from Kumanovo, a suspect in the crime.
