EU Commissioner for EnlargementMarta Kos’s office denies the claims of a senior official of the opposition SDSM, Andrej Zhernovski, who stated Wednesday at a press conference that the EU Commissioner was referring to Macedonia when she spoke about “toxic Russian influence” and “Trojan horses” among candidate countries.

The commissioner’s office told the expres.mk news website that Kos’s statement did not apply to Macedonia, but rather spoke generally about all candidates in the sense of the existence of a strong and resilient democracy.

“The response from Kos’s office indicates that Zhernovski is lying and making up stories when he says that Kos’s message applies to Macedonia,” wrote expres.mk.

Zhernovski said Wednesday at a press conference that Kos’s statement clearly stated what was happening in relation to Macedonia’s path to the European Union.

Zhernovski quoted Kos in the section: “You must be resistant to toxic influence from Russia and others and we will not allow Trojan horses in the European Union” and concluded that Kos was addressing Macedonia directly.

According to Zhernovski, the statement does not refer to other countries or to other countries but exclusively to Macedonia, which according to Kos’s office is a lie.
