A serious theft of electricity from a substation has been established, after which the perpetrator was issued an invoice for compensation in the amount of MKD 16 million or EUR 260,000, the EVN Distribution said on Tuesday.
The team for detecting unauthorized use of electricity has requested the Ministry of Interior to conduct a search and involve an expert, due to grounds for suspicion of theft of electricity in a business building on Butelska Street in Skopje.
It was found that electricity was illegally used through the unauthorized connection of 3 low-voltage cables in the substation itself owned by Elektrodistribucija.
“A business building, a former mill, was used for the unauthorized supply of systems with graphics cards for mining bitcoins,” EVN said in a press release.
