A police officer from the GjorchePetrov police station is under internal investigation and is being suspended for sharing official materials with prisoners, i.e. for revealing official secrets, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Tuesday.

On December 20 last year, the manager of a hospitality facility in Skopje was reported for the criminal offenses – damaging property and extortion. Acting on the report for damaging property, the manager sent the police officer who was reported a video recording from security cameras in connection with the reported crime. The officer sent the video recording via Instagram, i.e. made it available to a person serving a prison sentence in the Prilep Correctional Institution, who was also reported by the manager for the criminal offense of extortion.

The Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards Department against police officer A.J. will file a proposal to initiate a procedure to determine responsibility for violating work rules and discipline and will impose mandatory measures for confiscation of service weapons and ammunition, referral for a mandatory psychological and psychiatric examination and removal from the workplace until the completion of the disciplinary procedure – suspension.
