Macedonian Minister of Health Azir Aliu announced Thursday that controls of all companies producing medical cannabis have begun. As he said at a press conference, 43 licenses will have to be inspected.

Minister Aliu reminded that a government decision has also been made to appoint members of the interdepartmental committee.

“Extraordinary inspections begin today in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. Most likely, while this press conference is taking place, colleagues are in the field. A total of 43 licenses for the production of medical cannabis will have to be checked. A decision was made two days ago at a government session to appoint members of the interdepartmental committee. A person from the Ministry of Health (MoH) will head it. It was established in 2017, and we have not found a single report on its work, although it is one of the key ones for us to have an insight into what is happening in terms of the production of cannabis for medical purposes,” the health minister stressed.

Aliu noted that for now there are two committees, one composed of the Ministry of Health, which works continuously, and another – interdepartmental. Minister Aliu informed that on Tuesday at a government session he requested legal amendments that would allow the minister in such cases to have the authority to form more than one committee.
