The Macedonian Financial Police Department has launched a case and is investigating allegations of a possible entry of suspicious capital into the Macedonian media space, after SDSM publicly requested an investigation into the purchase of a television station and, as the party claims, the increased influence of Serbian media groups in Macedonia.
The Financial PD is investigating all clues and information that was made public, while the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services, based on the actions of the institutions, has stopped the procedure for changing the ownership structure of a television and a radio station.
“Regarding the allegations made by SDSM about the alleged entry of suspicious capital and the purchase of a television station, we inform the public that the Financial Police Department is acting on the case and examining all the clues and information that were made public, and the AVMS, based on the actions of the institutions, has stopped the procedure for changing the ownership structure of a television station and a radio station. The institutions, within their legal competences, are taking the necessary actions to determine all relevant facts and circumstances,” the Financial Police said in a press release Friday.
The institutions have not yet released any more details about the Financial Police case, nor about which specific television station and radio station are covered by the halted AVMS procedure. The investigation should show whether there is any basis for the suspicions that were made public.
