Pensions to go up by 3 to 3.5 percent, exact calculation to be known next week

The amount of the pension increase will be known at the beginning of September, and according to all parameters and information, it will be 3 to 3.5 percent, Macedonian Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth Gjoko Velkovski said Saturday.

“We are waiting for the end of August and next week we will have the parameters and come up with specific figures, because they should be included in the payment of the September pension that will be taken on October 1,” Velkovski told TV Sitel.

He pointed out that for now, the article of the law with the percentage increase of pensions, which previously increased by MKD 7,000 with the linear increase, remains in force.

“Will there be additional interventions, according to the policies and dynamics of how certain parameters will move in the country, decisions will be made additionally. The next one is in March 2027. I think there is time until then,” Minister Velkovski pointed out.

Previously, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in response to a reporter’s question whether there will be pension increase in September, said that in order to protect pensioners, pensions will increase in line with the law, stating that when the government increased pensions linearly, then certain individuals encouraged by the opposition parties filed an initiative before the Constitutional Court for its abolition.

“Yes, it will be a regular leveling, adjustment in line with the law. You know that there were initiatives by individuals in the background encouraged by political parties to raise the issue of a linear increase in pensions before the Constitutional Court. In order to protect pensioners and pensions, the increase will continue to be in line with the adjustments provided for by law,” said Prime Minister Mickoski.
