A Skopje resident who suffered a serious spinal cord injury while on holiday in the Turkish resort of Kusadasi has been transported to the country by government plane and is hospitalized at the University Clinic for Traumatology, Orthopedic Diseases, Anesthesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (TOARILUC), said the Clinic’s director Dr. Igor Merdzhanovski. He informed that the patient was injured in an accident on a toboggan, after which he underwent surgery on July 23 at a hospital in Kusadasi, where he has been kept for treatment until today.
At the request of Turkish doctors and due to the severity of the injury, an air medical transport was organized by government plane.
“Colleagues requested that the patient be transported by air due to the severity of the injury and the need for rapid transport. Many thanks to the Government and the General and Joint Affairs Service, who came forward to facilitate the transport,” Merdzhanovski said.
He pointed out that a medical team led by the Intensive Care Unit head Dr. Marta Treneva, was sent to Turkey, who took over the patient and accompanied him during the transport to Skopje.
“The patient is in a health condition that requires intensive treatment. We have reviewed the medical documentation and I can say that the operation performed in Turkey was satisfactory and well done. The spinal cord injuries are among the most serious injuries,” dr. Merdzhanovski said.
