The Government led by VMRO-DPMNE is developing tourism with concrete investments and positioning Macedonia as an increasingly attractive tourist destination, VMRO-DPMNE MP Aleksandar Jamalov said Sunday.
“The development of tourism is one of the strategic priorities of the VMRO-DPMNE-led Government. In the past period, numerous infrastructure and development projects have been implemented that aim to improve the tourist offer, increase the country’s connectivity with the region and Europe, and create new opportunities for local economic development. One of the most significant projects is the construction of the Skopje – Thessaloniki high-speed railway, which will represent the largest infrastructure project not only for Macedonia, but also for the entire region of Southeast Europe. With its completion, the journey to Thessaloniki will be significantly shortened, which will enable faster access to the sea and will contribute to an increased number of tourist visits in both directions. At the same time, Gevgelija will develop into an important tourist and economic center, and the expansion of the border crossing will facilitate the movement of passengers and tourists,” said the MP.
The ruling party representative stressed that significant results have also been achieved in air traffic as an important segment for the development of tourism.
“Through the program for subsidizing new airlines, 21 new air destinations have been provided from Skopje and Ohrid airports since the fall of 2024. New routes to cities such as Barcelona, Dubai, Naples, Milan, Budapest, Vienna, Krakow and other European centers make Macedonia accessible to foreign tourists and contribute to increasing tourist traffic. At the same time, investments are being made in the modernization of the airport infrastructure. The reconstruction of Ohrid Airport is in its final phase, with a new terminal, a new administrative building and expansion of passenger and airline reception capacities. The results are already visible, with Ohrid Airport setting a record with more than 3,000 passengers served in one day,” said Jamalov.
