Government stayed silent while framework agreement principles were being undermined, DUI claims

The party assesses that, if these claims are true, this is a “triple institutional failure” – due to the inaction of the Municipality of Tetovo, the silence of the Government and the manner in which decisions are made on sensitive interethnic issues

The opposition DUI expressed “serious” concern after the statement of Constitutional Court Judge Osman Kadriu, who, following the Constitutional Court’s decision to abolish the Albanian names of streets, squares and boulevards in Tetovo, stated that the Municipality of Tetovo did not defend the 2007 decision, and the Government did not take any action to protect it.

The party assesses that, if these claims are true, this is a “triple institutional failure” – due to the inaction of the Municipality of Tetovo, the silence of the Government and the manner in which decisions are made on sensitive interethnic issues.

“It is unacceptable for a historic decision that has been part of the city’s identity for almost two decades to remain undefended, and for the Government to remain silent on an issue that affects interethnic relations and the spirit of the Ohrid Framework Agreement,” the opposition DUI said in a press release.

Mala Rechica is demanding answers from the competent institutions as to why the Municipality of Tetovo did not defend its decision and why the Government did not react during the procedure.
