Lafchiski: The Army has shown strong commitment to regional and global security

Army Chief of Staff, Major-General Sashko Lafchiski, who is paying a visit to the United States Armed Forces, met with Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Christopher Mahoney, at the Pentagon on Thursday, reaffirming the 30-year partnership and cooperation between the two armies.

Major-General Lafchiski emphasized the strong commitment of the Army to regional and global security through the participation of members of the Army in peacekeeping operations and NATO activities, emphasizing the Macedonian participation in the “Forward Land Forces” in the Republic of Bulgaria, Romania and the Republic of Latvia.

In continuation of the meeting, Major-General Lafchiski informed General Mahoney about the largest modernization process in the history of the Army, including the equipping with the newly purchased STRAYKER and JLTV light armored vehicles, modern howitzers and other modern weapons and equipment.

The upcoming drill “Blesok 26” was also highlighted as a top national priority, which should assess the combat readiness of the Light Infantry Battalion Group.

The interlocutors also discussed the current challenges and threats at the global level, with special emphasis on the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, the need for continuous adaptation of the Army’s capacities and strengthening regional and international cooperation to deal with modern threats.
