The Ministry of Digital Transformation is finalizing activities for alignment with the European regulations on introducing the “Roam Like at Home” model with the European Union, while also opening the issue of detailing the legal framework for influencers and content creators, Macedonian Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski told reporters on Friday.
The minister confirmed that two weeks ago the European Commission officially opened the process for all countries in the Western Balkans, including Macedonia, noting that each of them will have to individually meet the conditions before starting bilateral negotiations. The Minister said that he expects that Macedonia will be the first country in the region to meet all the criteria, after which it will be able to enter into negotiations with the European Commission, which will act as an intermediary before European telecommunications operators.
“During this period, the EU has already received the amendments and supplements to the Law on Electronic Communications, with which we fully comply with EU requirements in the areas of security, fair use of roaming, prices, and cross-border pricing, and I expect that this established text, which we have already determined for the government and sent to the EC, after receiving the EC’s comments, we will send it to Parliament and adopt it, which means that we will be the first country in the region to meet the EU roaming requirements, then we will start negotiations with the EC, it will be our representative before European telecom operators and we will reach agreements with them, I expect that this will happen in 2026, but the dynamics will end with the EC, we are ready,” Minister Andonovski pointed out.
