The global price of copper continues to hike due to increased Chinese demand and reduced supplies, while this metal is becoming increasingly important for the energy and technological transition.

Copper on the London Stock Exchange reached $ 14,000 per ton, with a growth of 2 percent, and analysts expect high demand to continue in the next decade.

Meanwhile, experts warn that Macedonia remains focused on exporting raw materials, instead of developing value-added industries, at a time when copper is becoming one of the most strategic resources in the world.

According to research by geologists, Macedonia possesses large quantities of copper, and this is confirmed in the 2026-2046 Mineral Resources Strategy prepared by MANU.

“The Macedonian economy, as a small open economy, should work on building a model that will be based on exports, where the mining and quarrying sector will have its contribution, taking into account the fact that this sector is export-oriented and its contribution can be of exceptional importance,” reads the Strategy.
