Macedonian language, identity, culture and history not subjects of discussion, FM Mucunski tells Bulgarian counterpart Petrova

Macedonian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade TimchoMucunski met with Bulgarian counterpart VelislavaPetrova and highlighted the need for finding a solution for the bilateral issue that hinders the process of opening the European Union accession negotiations.

FM Mucunski reaffirmed the Government’s positions that topics related to the Macedonian language, identity, culture and history cannot be subjects of negotiations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said after the encounter held on the sidelines of the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Interlocutors referred to the significance of Corridor VIII and the need to speed up activities related to the opening of the Klepalo border crossing as an important aspect of regional infrastructure and economic connectivity.

FMMucunski also opened the issue of the rights of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria, underscoring the need for consistent implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, reads the press release.
