With the new plan, Macedonia will strengthen the resources of the Geological Survey. Mining investments in Ilovica and Plavica have the potential to bring Macedonia significant economic benefits, according to estimates included in the new Mineral Resources Strategy by the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU).

According to the analyses, these projects could generate approx. EUR 770 million, funds that would be directed towards new jobs, infrastructure development, reclamation and biodiversity monitoring. The document prepared by MANU experts emphasizes the need to implement the strategy with a sustainable approach and respect for the environment.

“These are funds that should be allocated from the Budget of the Republic of North Macedonia and do not include investments in opening new capacities for metals, non-metals and energy capacities. According to data obtained from about 20 companies using questionnaires, it is expected that they will invest somewhere around EUR 500 million in the next 5-10 years. In addition to these funds, the potential opening of Ilovica and Plavica is estimated to cost around EUR 770 million,” shows the Strategy.
