The Department for Suppression of Organized and Serious Crime with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption (PPO-OCC) conducted a police operation in which an organized criminal group involved in the commission of several crimes was suppressed, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Friday.
“As part of the operation, based on previously issued orders from the Basic Criminal Court, searches are being carried out at several locations in Skopje, Strumica and Bitola, and several people have been deprived of their liberty, some of them employed as doctors at Skopje clinics and owners of dermatology practices,” informs the MoI.
As previously reported by news agency NetPress, the police conducted a coordinated operation at several locations across the country late Thursday afternoon, aimed at dismantling networks suspected of performing illegal medical treatments and distributing unregistered preparations in aesthetic surgery.
There are also suspicions that the network is connected to the illegal import and distribution of counterfeit Botox, fillers and other medical preparations, which were brought into the country through illegal channels from several countries, including China, Turkey and Serbia.
The products, according to information, did not have proper control, permits or registration, and were then placed on the market, so that instead of improving appearance, they could cause serious health consequences – infections, deformities, and permanent damage.
