Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) continues to summon for questioning people whose social media profiles Wednesday spread information that the tap water in Skopje should not be drunk due to the alleged presence of the Escherichia coli bacteria.

The MoI informed the media Thursday morning that the Cybercrime Sector is taking measures to identify the profiles from which the controversial posts were spread, after which the people are being summoned for questioning.

“After completing the investigative actions, we will inform the public accordingly,” the MoI said.
Information about alleged contamination of Skopje’s water was widely spread on social media Wednesday, causing concern among citizens. They were denied by Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, the PE Water Supply and Sewerage and the Macedonian Ministry of Health.

At a press conference, Gjorgjievski assured that the water in Skopje is safe to drink and that there’s no presence of Escherichia coli or other dangerous bacteria.

Mayor Gjorgjievski, has dismissed reports of alleged contamination of drinking water, insisting that Skopje’s tap water is safe.

“There is no such thing and I responsibly claim that we have one of the five best waters and springs in Europe. I stand behind that. I am not a monster who will allow even one life of my fellow citizens to be put in danger,” Gjorgjievski added.
