The Cybercrime Sector at the Public Security Bureau (PSB) of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has warned that a frequent occurrence has been observed in recent days of cases where unknown individuals, via a foreign phone number +639606963624, are sending Macedonian users messages about an allegedly registered traffic violation and requesting payment by payment card on a fake website http://mvr.govmk.cam/mk .

The fraud is carried out in such a way that, after one clicks on the link provided in the text message it opens a fake MoI website, where one is asked to enter the license plate of your vehicle and then opens another window where the violation is stated and one is asked to pay MKD 1,500 for it.

“We urge citizens to be cautious and not to trust messages coming from an illegitimate website of the Ministry, nor to leave their personal data and payment card data, which then become a target for abuse. The Cybercrime Sector at the Ministry of Interior also urges citizens and legal entities not to open suspicious links and attached documents in messages that do not come from verified and known senders in order not to fall for scams of this type,” reads the Ministry’s warning.
