Motorways are being built with excellent dynamics. We have opened the fronts for work and provided all the conditions for them to work. Now it remains to work on quickly opening new highway sections, Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said Sunday.
Deputy PM and Minister of Transport Nikoloski on Saturday said that the construction of the Ohrid-Kichevo motorway is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 or at the very beginning of next year.
According to Nikoloski, construction activities on the ground are taking place at an accelerated pace, and the section represents one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country. Nikoloski pointed out that in the past period, work has been done to overcome numerous problems and delays that have slowed down the project for years.
The Ohrid-Kichevo motorway is among the most anticipated road routes in the country, especially due to its importance for better connecting the southwestern region with Skopje and the rest of the country. With its commissioning, travel time should be significantly reduced and traffic safety should be improved.
Currently, intensive work is underway on several parts of the route, including asphalting, construction of tunnels, bridges and slopes. Some of the critical points, which were previously problematic due to landslides and additional design, according to the authorities, have already been stabilized.
Nikoloski stresses that the Government has a clear goal for the project to finally be completed and put into operation after a long period of delays and additional costs.
The Ohrid-Kichevo motorway section is part of the Corridor VIII project and has strategic importance for transport, tourism and the economic development of the region.
