Macedonia is preparing for a technological leap in rail transport, but the biggest challenge will not be the construction of the tracks, but the human resources who will manage them, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said in an interview with 4TV.mk, and warned that the country must immediately start serious training of train drivers and technical personnel.
With the announcement of a high-speed railway that will develop speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, Macedonia enters the group of countries with high technology in transport, which requires a completely new profile of workers in PE Macedonian Railways.
“We can provide the most modern trains and stable financing, but someone needs to operate those trains. We cannot borrow train drivers from the UK. That is why we are already starting preparations now, even though the railway will be fully operational by 2031. We need serious people who will go through rigorous training so that they can safely operate trains on high-speed lines,” Nikoloski noted.
