The Macedonian State Audit Office (SAO) has determined that the estimated cost for the third phase of Railway Corridor VIII, the Kriva Palanka–Bulgarian border line, has risen by approximately €220 million, climbing from €340 million to €560 million, VMRO-DPMNE MP Dragan Veljanovski told a press briefing Saturday.
“The SAO report confirms that the minds of SDS and DUI were occupied solely by kickbacks, percentages, and tenders. Instead of working in the citizens’ interest, that ‘scum’ worked to line their own pockets. That is why SDS and DUI must answer: why was the project delayed for years while its estimated cost kept rising? Why should citizens have to pay an extra €220 million? Just so figures like Filipche and Zaev could fill their pockets?” Veljanovski stated.
The MP notes that the VMRO-DPMNE-led Government is now working to find a sustainable solution for Railway Corridor VIII and to realize this strategic connection.
