Marko Gjorgjievski, PetarMilanov, Adam Velkov and his father, opera baritone RisteVelkov, are the four victims of the horrific traffic accident that occurred Thursday night on the Skopje bypass at the Mirkovci interchange.
The lives of Marko, Petar and Adam were cut short at the age of just 20, while RisteVelkov died at the age of 51.
The Skopje-based “Nikola Karev” High School also bid farewell to the young boys, where they graduated from high school two years ago.
“Marko, Petar and Adam, graduates of the 2020-2024 generation, boys known for their smiles, charm and friendship with everyone.Karev’s heart cries today. Our children, who until a few years ago walked the hallways, sat at school desks and dreamed of the future…it is hard to believe that their lives ended too soon. We express our most sincere and deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. May they rest in peace,”reads the high school’s press release.
The 76-year-old suspect was driving a MAN truck with an attached semi-trailer with Kosovo license plates, along the northern bypass of the city of Skopje in a west-to-east direction.
“In doing so, he did not comply with the regulations and thereby endangered public traffic and put people’s lives in danger. When he came near the Mirkovci intersection, he did not adjust the speed of the vehicle to the properties and condition of the road, the traffic density and other traffic conditions, so that he could stop the vehicle in time in front of any obstacle that he could have foreseen under the given conditions. At one point, he lost control of the vehicle and turned left, then hit and broke through the metal barrier and continued moving, crossing onto the highway carriageway intended for vehicles from the opposite direction, where a BMW passenger vehicle traveling from east to west hit him with its front end. After the impact, the car and the truck caught fire. The four passengers in the passenger car died on the spot in the accident,” the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje informed.
Since there are circumstances indicating a flight risk and a possibility that the suspect may repeat the crime, the public prosecutor forwarded a proposal to the pre-trial judge to impose a detention measure.
