We are starting next week the first reconstruction of the Ohrid Airport, the first since its construction. We have gone through a difficult process for the past year and a half, but we have managed to legalize the airport. In the meantime, we are working on an agreement with Saudi Arabia in the area of air traffic and I expect to establish a direct line between the two countries, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski told TV Sitel.
“We have already passed a protocol for an agreement with Saudi Arabia, we expect to negotiate it in the next month, sign it and have a direct flight from Saudi Arabia to Skopje from one of the airports there. Next week we are starting the reconstruction of the Ohrid airport, the first reconstruction of that type since its construction. Until recently, it was an illegal facility, we had it in front of us, but it was not there on paper.
\We are managing to legalize it, which is a shame for the state that one of the two airports is not there on paper. It was a difficult process because you have to register the entire infrastructure. But that is completed and next is the reconstruction that will bring more flights and passengers and I expect the tourist part to be directed there, and the business part to come to Skopje,” said Deputy PM and Minister Nikoloski.
He adds that air traffic has been developing significantly in the past year and a half and emphasizes the fact that 23 new destinations have been established from domestic airports so far, which is a huge achievement for Macedonia.
