Opposition SDSM leader VenkoFilipche said Tuesday that a set of laws will be forwarded to Parliament to allow the citizens to more easily weather the crisis following the latest developments in the Middle East. He announced that SDSM MPs will propose a law reducing VAT rate from 18 to 5 percent for fuel, law reducing excise tax by four denars, law scrapping VAT for basic food products and law halving pay toll prices in the country.
“It’s not just about fuel prices. This price hike will lead to higher prices for food, basic food products, and possibly electricity. Then, even if the price of oil on world stock exchanges stabilizes and decreases, if these price hikes occur, nothing will bring the prices back,” Filipche said.
“We will forward a law to reduce the VAT rate from 18% to 5% for fuels, reduce the excise tax by 4 denars, abolish or reduce to 0% VAT for basic food products and halve the prices of tolls. The government must accept these laws, because the people in this crisis simply will not be able to feed themselves,” added the opposition leader.
