The Sinohydro company, which is fully owned by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), announced that over 95 percent of the works foreseen in the original contract for the construction of the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway have been completed so far.

The company informs that in the past period, with the support of the Government and the investor, progress has been accelerated in the area of expropriation and project documentation. During 2025, on July 13, September 7 and December 31, a total of 27.96 kilometers of the main route (both carriageways) were opened to traffic, i.e. sections with a length of 13.5 kilometers, 12.34 kilometers and 2.12 kilometers.

Sinohydro states that it has already completed the Miladinovci-Stip motorway in North Macedonia, as well as the Krupishte-Kochani and Farish-Drenovo expressways.

Regarding the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway, the company explains that according to the contract they are responsible for the construction works, while the project documentation, slopes, expropriation and dislocations are not within their jurisdiction. In the past ten years, as the company points out, the project has faced challenges related to expropriation, as well as design solutions that were not fully aligned with the real geological conditions on the ground.
