Panova: Opposition’s political immaturity is blocking the Electoral Code vote

Despite our attempt and four months of negotiations, agreements, meetings at which the Electoral Code was debated with arguments, in the end the reasons for the failure to adopt the Electoral Code are the obvious unwillingness of the opposition to accept that we will achieve another great success by adopting this Electoral Code, in that, in this way, we would have fulfilled 10 out of 10 of the conditions for the Reform Agenda and would have received much more money, which was just one of our goals, VMRO-DPMNE Executive Committee and MP Eli Panova said in an interview with SlobodenPechat daily news outlet.

MP Panovastressed that the opposition showed a certain political immaturity by not accepting the OSCE and ODIHR’s remarks to be implemented in the Electoral Code, as well as the fact that the IZ is one of the laws that must be adopted by consensus because it is subject to filibustering in the Parliament and at any moment, as Panova says, any political party can block its adoption, as actually happened through the submission of 13,000 opposition amendments.

Panova, among other things, also addressed the points discussed by the political parties, which related to potential changes to the Electoral Code, while also highlighting the only request of VMRO-DPMNE regarding the manner of voting for the diaspora.

The MP also highlighted the contradiction of the opposition, which when it was in power organized an electronic census of the diaspora and today is against enabling it to vote electronically, while also highlighting VMRO-DPMNE’s proposal to organize diaspora voting by mail.
