Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski told reporters Thursday “he is convinced Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar’s statement that Hungary does not support an accelerated accession process for any EU candidate country does not refer to Western Balkan countries, but rather to other candidate countries.”
“I am convinced that PM Magyar does not mean what he said about the Balkans, because so far, since he was elected Prime Minister of our strategic partner Hungary, he has made several dozen statements in which he says that the support for the Western Balkans, to which we also belong geographically, for accession to the European Union is unequivocal and sincere and it has never been called into question. I think it refers to other candidate countries for EU membership,”said Mickoski in response to a reporter’s question after the promotion of new municipal vehicles for municipalities.
Mickoski was also asked about a possible investigation into the Hungarian loan that the country received while Viktor Orban was prime minister, and he stressed that it is an internal matter of Hungary.
“I assume that the institutions of Hungary will do their job and come out with some kind of statement related to that loan. And the second sub-question – am I afraid? I am absolutely not, because all of this is part of our strategic partnership, confirmed by both parliaments and both governments. The funds have been spent in a transparent manner. I express my gratitude to Hungary, which, as our strategic partner, was the first to lend us a hand at the time when we were fighting to get the country out of bankruptcy due to the debts we inherited from the bandit government of SDSM and DUI,” PMMickoski said in response to media questions.
