In order for snap elections to be scheduled, certain prerequisites must be met, and that is that there must be a political crisis in the country, which we do not have, or that the processes in Parliament or in the Government must be blocked, which are also not blocked, said MP and former Prime Minister DimitarKovachevski in an interview with SitelTV.
Regarding the snap parliamentary elections topic, according to Kovachevski, there are neither political nor procedural reasons why elections would be held.
“It is legitimate for any opposition, DUI for example, to want to cause snap elections and, in that way, practically come to power, that is practically the goal of every opposition. However, at the moment I see neither political nor, I would say, procedural reasons why they would have snap elections. That is the first thing,” said Kovachevski.
“The second thing is that this Government has a really large parliamentary majority, almost a 2/3 majority with which it can decide very easily on all issues and thus lead the processes in the country. Finally, I believe that citizens do not live by election dates, but they live by the amount of the wage they receive, the amount of prices, the amount of benefits, the utility services they receive, the level of education, health services, etc. And this Government should be left, for another year and a half, how much is left of its term, to see what will be realized,” added the MP.
Regarding the opposition SDSM party’s stance that there will be no alibi for holding snap parliamentary elections, Kovachevski said the party should be prepared.
“SDSM must be prepared for elections at any time, but SDSM does not need to give a reason, to provoke snap elections in conditions when the Government has an absolute majority,” Kovachevskipointed out.
