Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects the realization of the Corridor X Fast Rail project to start at the beginning of 2027, after the completion of the feasibility studies and a signed contract with a potential investor.

“We are continuing with the implementation of the Corridor X Fast Rail project, the feasibility study is already nearing completion. The environmental impact study is also nearing completion. There is, of course, a legal duration that is set at 270 days. I expect that sometime this summer, June or July, we will completely close those issues, because a revision of those studies is also necessary. And after all of that is completed, we will enter the process of signing an agreement for a potential financier of that project. Although the Ministry of Finance has already announced an international call in the past. We have a non-binding indicative offer from a potential best bidder, they should of course confirm the conditions that they gave then. And if everything goes as planned should, I expect the implementation of this project to begin at the beginning of next year,” said the PM.

“The Corridor VIII project is also continuing to be implemented. A section of the Kumanovo – Border Crossing Bulgaria section is underway. The last tunnel of the second section has been broken through, the first to Beljakovce has already been put into operation. And of course, we are already negotiating with the European Commission and the money has already been provided within the Growth Plan, for the modernization of the railway from Skopje to Kichevo, i.e. its electrification and replacement of the rails. So this project is being implemented with unabated dynamics. I expect it to be completely completed from Kichevo, basically to the border with Bulgaria, by 2029-2030 at the latest,” said PM Mickoski.
