The Shtip Basic Court returned a verdict sentencing Stojanche Zarkov to life imprisonment for the murder of his 84-year-old mother Marija, committed in August 2025.
The trial council accepted the prosecution’s evidence, according to which Zarkov committed the heinous act while intoxicated. Key moments in proving guilt were the expert examination of the knife and the DNA analysis of the fingerprints and blood, which irrefutably confirmed that he was the perpetrator. Additionally, the defendant was burdened by the recording of the call to the emergency services immediately after the event, where he says: “I stabbed my mother unintentionally, she will either survive or not”.
Zarkov claimed at the trial that he did not remember killing his mother. He said that he was performing his daily duties that day.
He then said that he was in the other room when his mother started screaming. He entered her room and saw that blood was flowing from her neck.
The suspect called an ambulance, and then the police and the public prosecutor arrived at the crime scene. DNA analysis proved that defendant Stojanche Zarkov was the murderer.
