The City of Skopje has allocated financial aid in the amount of MKD 1,200,000 to deal with the consequences of the earthquake in Venezuela, as a sincere act of solidarity towards the friendly people, said Skopje Mayor OrceGjorgjievski on Tuesday.

The mayor points out that Skopje knows very well what pain means after a devastating earthquake, referring to the devastating Skopje earthquake of July 26, 1963, when over 1,000 people died.

“Our city carries that scar deep in its history, but it also carries the strongest message, that when it is most difficult, humanity must be the loudest. After the catastrophic earthquake in 1963, Skopje was not left alone. The world lent a hand, people from all continents helped the city to be reborn from the ruins, and among the first countries that stood by with help and solidarity was Venezuela. Skopje does not forget that. That is why, today, when the people of Venezuela are facing the consequences of the earthquake, the City of Skopje responds with humanity, respect and support,”noted the Skopje mayor.
