Macedonian Minister of Interior PancheToshkovski while discussing the “Mazut” case in a TV interview said it must not be allowed and he will never allow, at least not during his tenure, to have a case with such evidence intended to prove a certain crime be closed like that.
Commenting on the case in an interview with Telma TV, Minister Toshkovski said everyone should do their job according to the law, pointing out that he doesn’t think that the “Mazut” case is a closed case.
“The PPO is competent and is the driving force behind these proceedings. The Ministry of Interior has done the work it was supposed to do and that is visible, both within these cases and within all proceedings that are within the competence of the Ministry of Interior. The fact is that the Public Prosecutor’s Office is failing, continuously. This is what all possible public opinion polls say in the past ten, fifteen, five years… That is a fact. The Public Prosecutor’s Office must deliver justice if it wants to earn the trust of the citizens,” said Toshkovski.
The interior minister stressed that he would like to believe an oversight occurred during the prosecution’s regular work.
“When you have a meeting with investigators who tell you ‘Minister, what is happening in this case is at least beyond imagination’, in the sense of not acting in accordance with the expectations of the investigators based on evidence that they have delivered, analyzed and given them reasonable suspicion that there is illegal activity in the specific case, while at the same time we have a different picture, perception and action,” Toshkovski added.
